Plantar Fasciitis Relief Clinic in Coquitlam

Coquitlam Plantar Fasciitis Relief (Austin Heights)

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the fat pad on the bottom of the foot. A thickening or tightness of the muscles of the calf such as the Gastrocnemius Muscle and Soleus can pull into the plantar fascia, causing irritation, arch pain and heel pain.

Many people are affected by this condition annually and pain is usually described as a sharp stabbing pain, worse with the first few steps in the morning or anytime they have been sitting for a longer period of time.

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that causes pain in the heel and arch of the foot. It is caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot.

Symptoms of This Condition:

  • Heel Pain Under the Heel

  • Pain Worse in the Morning

  • Pain After Sitting or Resting

  • Pain Eases with Walking

  • Relief from Stretching or Mobility

There are many factors that can cause plantar fasciitis. Here we will review some common causes

  1. Improper Shoe Wear
In many instances, improper shoes that have a narrow toe box, are too tight or heels can place abnormal demands on our feet and not allow our feet bones to articulate in their natural way. Stress on our feet joints combined with over engagement of the Achilles Tendon and our calves muscles may be one reason for development of plantar fasciitis.
  2. Prolonged Standing or Walking
Our feet support our full body weight in upright and standing. In individuals that undergo prolonged standing and walking on a daily basis with minimal rest, especially when combined with improper shoe wear, the risk of developing plantar fasciitis increases.
  3. Types of Walking Surfaces
Uneven surfaces such as walking on a rocky beach or running an uneven terrain places abnormal loads through our feet bones and stresses the Achilles tendon and the plantar fascia. When combined with other risk factors such as physically demanding jobs and improper shoe wear, the risks of developing PF can increase.

Other Causes of Condition Include:

  • High or flat arches (pes cavus or pes planus)

  • Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendon

  • Sudden increase in activity or new exercise regimen

  • Obesity or excess body weight

  • Age-related heel pad thinning

  • Overuse from running, jumping, or dance

  • Poor foot mechanics (pronation/supination)

  • Leg length discrepancy

Dr. Casey Gero is the only chiropractor that I will ever see. She has been able to tweak and fix my hip, knee and even my spine, which I have always been sensitive about. She kept my shoulder active when I injured it while working out. The shockwave therapy on my plantar fasciitis has helped tremendously.
